Sony was the 1st supplier introducing consumer HD digital cameras for the UK the same shape as the HDR-HC1E, and although new features converting from the tape based HDV format, Sony continues to launch products. The Sony HDR HC9E represents the 4th era of Sony buyer HDV camcorders, and is essentially a growth of the HDR-HC7E.
The Sony HDR HC1E have also been Sony’s first HD camcorder to utilize a CMOS sensor rather than a CCD one, and the Sony HDR HC9E camcorder continues that tradition. It uses a similar 1/2.9″ sensor as the HDR HC7E, that features a gross 3.2 MP. Only 2.3 MP are utilized whenever recording video, but Sony uses interpolation to improve still picture quality to 6.1MP for 2848 x 2136 images. Here is the comparable to the Sony HDR HC7E. The picture stabilisation is Sony’s Super SteadyShot optical system, instead of the (admittedly fairly decent) digital system present in all predecessors except the HDR-HC7E.
